Tom Ford unveiled his Spring 2019 collection last night to a star studded audience to kick off the launch of New York Fashion Week. The collection can only be hailed as back to basics, and cements in Ford’s roots as to why he got into the fashion game in the first place.
Swapping the wild 80s flamboyance of his last season, for a more palette-cleansing color base, his signature monochromes make a come back, with hues of deep red, beige, white, and black sweeping through the deconstructed lines and fitted jackets. The muted colors allow for the robust texture of the designs to shine amid lashings of silk, leather, feathers and delicate ruching. The mixture of hard leathers and soft sheer fabrics, coupled with asymmetric lines are the perfect combination of classically trained Tom Ford beauty with a modern twist. We saw tight pencil skirts, fringed gowns, and croc-embossed suits, a homage to the era of fashion fluidity.
Giving us a glimpse into his ultimate inspiration, Ford states “I wanted to make men and women feel more beautiful and to empower them with a feeling of confidence. A feeling of knowing that they looked their best and could then present their best selves to the world”.
The star studded audience included Adriana Lima, Hailee Steinfeld and The Queen of Fashion Anna Wintour, who sat next to an ever so handsome star of Crazy Rich Asians, Henry Golding. However, it was Cardi B who stole the show with her post baby make-over just months after giving birth. She emerged in a stunning black body con dress, which showed off her flawless figure.
Once again Tom Ford has shown us why is he is reigning king of fashion, and with such a strong start to the week, we are excited to see what is yet to come!
