The Harlem School of the Arts hosted its annual Masquerade Ball gala last night at the Plaza Hotel.  The crowd, which was filled with socialites and celebrities, came to celebrate the contributions of students, teachers and individuals who represent excellence in the arts.

This year’s honorees included actor Liev Schreiber, star of the hit Showtime series Ray Donovan, and Caleb McLaughlin, an alumni and breakout star of the Netflix series Stranger Things. Also honored was famed fashion designer Amsale Aberra, who tragically passed away in April. The award was lovingly accepted by her husband, Neil Brown, and her daughter, Rachel Brown, performed a moving song in her memory.

Fox 5 Good Day New York co-host, Lori Stokes, who served as Master of Ceremonies, kept everyone entertained and engaged between the honoree presentations and singing and dance performances.

For the second year in a row the event has raised over a million dollars in funds. The money raised goes towards essential resources to allow the HSA to continue to provide high quality arts education. Many of the young students come from economically depressed backgrounds and providing scholarship support is a vital component of the organization’s mission. The evening also serves as a important stage to showcase students’ talents and creativity.
